2181 Miles...14 States...6 Months...2 Feet...1 Dream... She went first, and her headlamp failed while mid-river.
Fun Facts about my AT Thru Hike:
- I had never hiked a day before in my life (with a backpack) before this hike
- The only practice I had was one overnight car camping trip with my friend Joanna a few weeks before departure.
- Longest stretch without a shower: 8 days
- There were a few instances on the trail where I was literally scared for my life.
- I saw several rattlesnakes throughout the hi
ke. Most of the sitings were compiled into less than one short mile throughout the entire 2181 miles, where I saw about 5 (by myself and days from town)
- I cried in front of a soda vending machine in a state park in NJ because I did not have any money
- I drank 6 canned sodas in under 3 hours in a state park in NY
- It was an apocolyptic year of hiking with a tornado in TN dropping TONS of wind, flooding, and hail, Hurricane Irene washing out footbridges and flooding rivers (making them VERY hard to ford) and stranding us at a hotel in NH for 5 nights, and the earthquake that rocked Washington and experienced while in a restaurant loading up on food in Manchester Center, VT.
- It was pitch black, 11pm at night, while fording one of the rivers in NH with a fellow hiker. 1) it was late b/c we were lost 2) footbridge was washed away from the hurricane 3) we couldn't stop b/c we were slackpacking and did not bring extra shelter or food (bad mistake). I caught up, we shared my headlamp, and found our way back to the hostel (with a very mad and worried hostel owner)
