Haven’t posted much about our summer mainly because it has been a busy one. I wish I could collaborate June and July but the truth is they both flew by so fast I feel like I’ve almost forgotten everything! 🤪🙈😂

• And, to end the month, I went in for my colostomy reversal surgery!! ❤️‍🩹
To say the month was full of activities, would be an understatement! But, it brought me lots of joy and happiness to boot!!

This was year #10 our favorite guests, Jason and Val, joined us on one of the most fun weekends of the year!! 🤗
This year the guys finished in the $$! 3rd place in their flight! Whoop! Whoop!
Another wonderful time was had by all!!

🏐 ＮＥＷ ＨＡＰＰＥＮＩＮＧＳ 🏐

A month ago, I resigned as Inman’s Junior High head volleyball coach only to take on a new position!! I am now the new Head Volleyball Coach at Inman High!! 🤗🏐

This is exciting in so many ways! I’ve had the pleasure of coaching all these same girls in junior high and now I get to coach them again!! I’ve already developed relationships with these amazing kids and I so look forward to coaching them at a different level!
Exciting times are ahead!

I had the pleasure of making the cake for my niece and nephew’s Couples Baby Shower! 🩷 All I was told that anything pink and gold will be fine! 🥰

I am so excited to meet Baby girl Swartz!! Pallie and Bryan are going to be great parents!!

Hope all you mamas had a wonderful day celebrating YOU!
My day was pretty darn amazing! 🥰
It started off with Brody running in and grabbing us all a McDonald’s breakfast! I mean a good ol sausage egg & cheese McGriddle really hit the spot! We all enjoyed and watched church from home. Ran into Mac to visit and deliver flowers to Grandma Huber and tell her HMD! 💐🩷
Then we got home to find Payton made it back from MHK and we ate a late lunch at Chilis! The plan was to hit the Dunes and play golf but we wanted the rain more so once the rain was over we hit up Hutch Putt for a “friendly, non competitive” (yeah right!) family game of putt putt! 🫣😂 Then we stopped into Subway to get dinner and visit TJ and stopped in Main Street Pizza for dessert to see Brody!! Sadly, boys had to work on Mother’s Day or else this would have been a perfect day! 😔
We ended the evening at home opening up my presents. They know me well, already prepping me for volleyball season! 😉🏐 And, watching Air and let me tell you, that is a great movie. If you don’t believe MJ is the G.O.A.T after that, you crazy! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂🤷🏼‍♀️

My family is my world. God sure has blessed me more than I deserve! ❤️

So, here’s the thing, I baked. I know, I know. That’s not new news. But, It’s been awhile. Took time away once I was diagnosed in February 2022 and I’ve been missing it since. It’s therapeutic for me. And, it’s fun! Plus, I’m not too bad at it either! 😉
This one was special. We hosted an engagement party for Jalyn and Keaton last night, and of course, you gotta have a dessert. So, when I asked them what they wanted, J wanted my chocolate peanut butter cake and Keats wanted wedding cake, so, like any mom would do, I appeased them both!!
The wedding cake I shot for a lavender ombré for these KSU alums. 💜 Swipe to see the inside!
It felt good to be back at it again!!

Yep. That’s me. Trying to become a baseball mama! Ha! Those who know me, know that I am out of my element here! Give me basketball and volleyball all day every day, but, baseball?? 🤔 Yikes! Brett nor I never played baseball or softball so we are a little clueless. However, Brody is loving it and doing pretty well, and we love him so now we love it too! Well, starting to like it anyway! 😉
So, I’d you see me buying sunflower seeds and Twizzlers and ball caps, mind ya business, I’m trying to become a baseball mom! 😘

That is how long it has been since I went to the ER to find out I was going septic from a large mass perforating my colon. Since having an emergency colectomy to remove that cancerous tumor. Since waking up in recovery with a colostomy bag attached to my stomach. Since realizing I was just lucky to be alive.

Is it ironic that on the one year anniversary of all that somewhat traumatizing unknown that I also finished my second round of treatment??
I think not.

God has been the true orchestrator of this cancer journey. My spiritual journey. I would be nowhere near where I am today without Him. I said it in the beginning and I believe it to this day, I am so thankful for my cancer diagnosis. God has His way of turning something tragic into something beautiful. ❤️

So, Happy 1 year Anniversary to my spiritual journey!! 🎉✝️
The best is yet to come.

We choose to rent an AirBnb instead of getting hotel rooms for many reasons. The main one being it’s more close knit and personal. This particular house was absolutely perfect for our crew!!
A perfect main floor living and kitchen area for the adults and an even more perfect living area for the teen boys to set up the PlayStation and veg out on the third floor! Which they claimed as soon as we got there!! 😜
Plenty of bedrooms and, even better, enough bathrooms for all!! That’s crucial when it is 2 girls to 7 boys! 🤪🙈😂
This was such a quaint and nostalgic home and the fam already asked if we could stay here next year! Ha!!

🏀 ＢＩＧ 1 2 ＴＯＵＲＮＥＹ 🏀

Our annual trip to the Big 12 Basketball tournament is in the books! Our family looks forward to this week all year! We were hoping for that KU vs KSU matchup in the championship game but not this year. 😞
T-Mobile offered a Big 12 food menu and of course, I had to give the Jayhawk Loaded Mac & Cheese a try!
Lots of basketball, food, drinks and fun was had by us all!!

My “off week” was not wasted!
GameDay and witnessing another one of Brett’s players join the 1,000 points club, manis and pedis and lunch with the girl, lunch and drinks with a dear friend, an amazing facial spa 🧖🏼‍♀️, another lunch date with J and Mak celebrating her becoming a mama in t-minus any day now! 🥰 and, a Saturday day date with my guy! 🥰

Tomorrow, however, I begin my second round of treatment. So, another week of feeling 🥴🤢! It’s all good tho! God is an amazing God and I WILL get through it again! 🥰

I have had a lot of friends offer their help and ask what they can do. I have been encouraged by my sweet friend, Lori, to ask and accept help. So, here goes me, Kristi, letting you know what I could use help with. 🥹
This is a busy week, of course, and I want Brett to be able to focus on his boys and their post season play.
1️⃣ Meals would be an awesome gesture this week!
2️⃣ If you have time and would like to visit, do it. Text me a heads up and I’m game! When I feel crappy, my first thought is, I don’t need to see anyone. But, the truth is, that’s exactly what I NEED. Whether it’s simply a 15 min visit or an hour! It’s good for the soul.
3️⃣ On top of prayers, if anyone feels lead to come pray with me in person, I would LOVE that! 🥰

👊🏼 ＲＯＵＮＤ ＯＮＥ 👊🏼

Y’all!! My first round of chemotherapy treatment is complete! ✅ An empty pill bottle has never felt so satisfying. 🫣😂 Even though my 2nd round begins next Monday, I’m bound to make the best of this off week!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
For those wondering, I began my first round of treatments on 2.6.2023. My schedule goes like this:
I complete a chemo infusion on Monday along with beginning chemo pills twice a day for two weeks. I am then off for a week before starting the next round. It is a 3-week cycle that I do 6 times. If I’m being honest, the infusion week is by far the worst. I literally feel awful for about 4 full days and the next few I’m very tired. I develop neuropathy in my hands so anytime I’m outside if it’s cold, grab anything out of the fridge or freezer or handling cold foods while grocery shopping, I have to wear gloves. I can’t drink cold drinks for about 10 days following. So staying hydrated is the hardest because I really don’t enjoy drinking room temp beverages! 🤦🏼‍♀️😭😂 I use to think I was pretty tough, but, I question that after going through this. I have mad respect for those who have gone through far worse treatments than I’m going through. Those are the real MVPs!! 🫶🏼

I can’t thank you all enough for all the prayers, words of encouragement, text messages, visits, food and snacks, hugs, all of it! It means so much to my family and I! 🥰❤️ But, I’m gonna say THANK YOU, anyway! 😘

An update and a memory! 😘
Today came and I feel like I killed it! 💉💪🏼 I arrived at 9am and walked out at 2pm. Even got to eat some lunch. So far, the only side effects I’m feeling are drowsiness, slight queasiness, mild headache, dry mouth and eye sockets (weird), and, unfortunately, neuropathy in my hands and feet. 🫳🏻🪡 Praying I will get some decent sleep and praying I handle the chemo pills just as well! 🙏🏼 God was with me every minute and I felt His present and all your prayers. My heart is full! ❤️🥰

Memories. Y’all know how I love me some blast from the past FB memories, some are funny, some are sad, some are even embarrassing 🙈😂 and, some, some are God’s small messages! 🥰✝️🫶🏼
5 years ago our high school hosted a Pink Night basketball game supporting the McPherson county organization, Women & Children Combatting Cancer (WACCC). It was a fantastic evening and when I was asked to donate some goodies for the bake sale, I couldn’t have said yes fast enough!! My point is, I don’t believe it’s just coincidence, I believe it’s a reminder from our Heavenly Father as to why giving is so meaningful to Him. There is a message behind it. It never occurred to me that while donating something I love to do, would come back to me. WACCC stopped by my house couple weeks ago with a chemo bag full of goods to help me through and I’m seriously overwhelmed with joy. God’s timing is perfect!

💉 ＲＥＡＤＹ ＯＲ ＮＯＴ 💉

My port went in on Wednesday, “Chemo school” on Friday, and, tomorrow, is my first chemo infusion. I’m calling this, the beginning of the end of my cancer journey. A spiritual battle like no other came before this day. God works in a way that sometimes I’m not prepared for. But, He gets me through it nonetheless. ❤️✝️ I have chosen to set my eyes on Him, and only Him, and have vowed to not allow the devil (fear) to get in the way.

Thank you to all my friends and family, your prayers and support have gotten me here!! Keep on praying, because it’s working!!
My appointment begins at 9am, if you could drop a prayer for me during this time, I will sure appreciate it! ❤️

This is one of my all time favorite pics of my family! It was taken in the Spring of 2021. Before a life changing diagnosis. Before I knew I wasn’t healthy. Before cancer decided to rear its ugly head into our lives. Fast forward to February 2022 with my first diagnosis through November 2022 to my second diagnosis.
This time, is different. This time, I need treatment. The dreaded chemotherapy.
It has been a spiritual battle for me since 11.28.22 when the second spot was found. I’m not 100% at peace with this decision, but, I’m close. God is an awesome God. He will get me through this.
Tomorrow, 2.1.22, I go in to get my port a cath put in. If you could drop a prayer my way, I would graciously accept it! 😘 I will do my best to keep you updated, but, know I’m sometimes lousy with that! 🫣😂 Also, know, you are not being nosey by reaching out, you are being caring and I appreciate that!!

I wish I had a better update for y’all, but, here goes!!
For those who don’t know, in March, I had an emergency colectomy to remove a tumor and with that process I had to receive a colostomy. Through that came many trials and errors and lots of emotions but it came down to that thing, while odd and inconvenient, saved my life.
On Monday, I went in to have surgery to reverse the procedure and to return a “normal” way of living. However, God had different plans, and while my surgeon was in there, he found another spot of cancer. This spot found a way to hide in my body where my PET scan could not detect it. Now, I still have Stewey the stoma 😉 and, unfortunately, I have cancer the a**hole again. 😠 The next step is healing from this surgery and to begin the process of treatment.
While, this is definitely not the outcome my family and I hoped for, we do know that God’s plans are far greater than ours. He makes no mistakes and I fully trust He will get us through this journey, yet once again.
Thank you to all of my friends and family for your thoughts and for all the prayers. It means more than you know!
