Jennifer Economy for Chesapeake School Board

Parent of three, Advocate for many. Parents, Students, Teachers - Let me be your voice. I am the mother of 3 teenagers and we have lived in Chesapeake
for 9 years.

My husband is a 24-year Navy Veteran. As you can see from my investigative work experience below, I am accustomed to doing research, asking questions, and finding answers. I believe that is an important trait to have as a School Board member. In 2018, two of my children were diagnosed with lifelong chronic illnesses within 6 months of one another. I learned real quick about 504s and IEPs and the d

Your voice matters Chesapeake!!!! Show up or write your city council and tell them to stop destroying southern Chesapeake! Put the people over the $$$ and the politics!!!

🚫SAY “NO” TO COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL SITE ON 1,420 ACRES (POTENTIAL TO BE 4,000 ACRES) SANDWICHED DIRECTLY IN BETWEEN CAVALIER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA AND THE GREAT DISMAL SWAMP🚫

”The next Greenbrier, but bigger…”, -the City of Chesapeake.
“Transformative” (for ALL of Hwy 17, and the neighboring backroads communities.)

Folks, these people have declared war on you and your right to live a quality life in peace in your own “home”. Put it deep in your hearts and minds this is exactly what is happening. Fight back and once this is over never forget the names of these politicians who have been serving up hell in your lives on a daily basis, for years!

So you’re all aware…
There are a few of us huddled behind the scenes working this from every angle possible.
There is NO WAY this junk is going in that spot or anywhere near Rural Southern Chesapeake, and this will be fought until that is accomplished, even if it takes years. We are ready.

A handful of smug self-serving, greed-driven individuals in our local and State “government” might be hellbent determined to shove this crap down our throats, but with your help it will be considerably easier to make it clear that it’s not going to happen. And possibly the most economical way for the City (-for which you are also paying. As someone recently pointed out, “What fiscal conservatism?”).

They have the option to rack up a hefty bill fighting with the People, and build yet more animosity among the People who voted them into those seats (and are paying for them to do our will), or save face and take their demon-possessed eyes out of our backyard.

Their blatantly disrespectful attitude and approach to “serving the People” is a great selling point for Chesapeake and Virginia, isn’t it?!?

The more people you tell about this nonsense, the better. Every single person I’ve met over the last few days has been informed and thoroughly educated, -and they are thankful to know. They all saw immediately and instinctively what a load of crap this is.

***NOBODY WANTS THIS BUILT THERE.***

***JOIN US ON TUESDAY***
Be more determined to tell them “NO!” than they are to build it.

So many of you have reached out to me today! Thank you! I’m fine:)

Running my own campaign against my own party, I was able to reach over 6,600 voters organically and I had a lot of opposition.

Having the courage to run is something I will never be ashamed of. We can either sit back and complain, or try to do something about it.

To all the candidates who won, congratulations. Please keep your campaign promises.

To my teammates, Kimberly and Jared, we did it our way!

To the opponents that I got to know on the campaign trail, thank you for hearing a different opinion and being accepting.

I’m still deciding what to do with this page. It will either get deleted or switched over to advocacy and awareness.

What did I do the day after the election? Started decorating for Christmas 🎄🎅🏻🤶🏻

Votes are in. Obviously you saved the best for last. For me, the best is yet to come. So many have said I’ll be a more effective advocate than a school board member with my hands tied behind my back.

I fought hard for kids and parents, especially those who have children with disabilities and special needs. I put protecting a child over a schools reputation. I’m not going anywhere.

To those who stood against me and smeared my good name, I see you, I know who you are, and you will be held accountable:)

To all of my supporters, thank you❤️

“Running as an Independent, Jennifer Economy said she will be asking the big questions. If elected, Economy said she is a parent advocate and will focus on transparency.”

"I realize that we don't get a second chance in raising our kids, so if I am elected I am going to work on rebuilding trust," said Economy.”

I’m an advocate for children with disabilities and special needs. Enough is enough of letting our most vulnerable students be neglected by the system!

Spent today with my birthday buddy, my Dad! He turned 80 and I turned another year older🥳

It was a special day for me because a little over 5 years ago after he suffered several strokes, he not only lost his ability to speak, the doctors told me he probably would not survive. And here we are today, still celebrating our birthdays together! I not only became his voice, I became his advocate❤️

"Most of the emails released this week were about reported violations of special education laws. Dozens came from Kandise Lucas, who advocates for families with students with special needs. In her emails, Lucas outlines various reports of schools and districts not complying with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. In one of these emails, Lucas encourages the governor to specifically create a tip line for the public to report IDEA non-compliance."

This was taken from an article I'm reading this morning regarding Governor Glenn Youngkin's tip line and some FOIA's that have been released. Violations of special education laws are a major concern to many across the state.

This has been one of my main platforms throughout my campaign, compliance with 504 plans and IEP's because of issues I've faced with my own children. And talking to many families and voters across Chesapeake, a concern for them as well.

We really need to start giving more attention to this area because so many students, no matter what their disability is, and their families, are affected. We need to do better.

Mother says after homeschooling her son went from F grades to B

I’ve said throughout my campaign that parents are their child’s best advocate. I also had to pull 2 of my 3 children from public schools over the past 2 years to homeschool because it was in their best interest.

Some felt that should disqualify me from running for school board. Yet others support me because they know I understand the struggles parents face.

I hope I can earn your vote!

I’ve been out of Chesapeake the past few days for a NALI Conference (National Association of Legal Investigators), which included a tour of the Pentagon. That makes for all three 9/11 sites I’ve visited now. If you ever have the chance for that tour, I highly recommend! The history displayed on those corridor walls is amazing!

And what a very informative conference it was with experts from around the country in many areas of investigation, with a bottom line focus of investigator ethics.

As in investigator myself, I do my research, ask questions, gather facts, and present information to clients so they can make informed decisions. I will also do that if elected to the board.

I know many of you voters have been doing your research as well. 11 more days until the election!

This is one school board speech I have not released yet from August 2022 because the sound quality was not the best.

I will speak up for those who don’t feel they have a voice.

I’ve heard other candidates say elections have consequences. Yes, they do. And some of us are not afraid to speak up and stand alone.

Chesapeake School Board Candidate Forum

Thank you to all the sponsors for putting on the School Board Candidate Forum yesterday covering one of my main platforms, Special Education.

I have met so many families not only in Chesapeake, but other areas around the state who are tackling issues related to their children with disabilities. There are problems statewide in many districts, starting at the top, VDOE.

These are parents whose voices are not being heard. Make sure you elect candidates who are not afraid to be loud when it comes to protecting these children.

I think there were some technical difficulties in the beginning, so some candidates intros were muted.

In recognition of Invisible Disabilities Week 2022.

This is how the “Mama Bear” got started for me. Having 2 children diagnosed with invisible disabilities in 2018 was extremely difficult for our family.

This is when I had to learn to “advocate like a mother.” 504 plans, IEP, and medical homebound instruction, were all part of the journey. It was not easy and at times I felt as though the system was working against us.

They say if you want to see change, you have to speak up. That’s why I’m running.

I spent the day at the polls handing out sample ballots. It was very interesting, once again, to see how politics continue to divide us all in a non-partisan race to fight for our children in public schools.

My son gave me this after he got off work today. He said he felt I needed to be reminded of the message as we get closer to the election, as the haters and keyboard warriors are out in full force.

My children were my inspiration for running. I’m an experienced parent advocate, not a politician.

Chesapeake Public School Pledge 10/06/2022

Chesapeake Public School Pledge

Candidates come from different backgrounds and may not agree on all issues. Some of us met at school board meetings, while others have never attended…

But, there are certain issues some of us do agree on as being the most important concerning our public schools.

You may have heard some candidates talk about taking the Public School Pledge...

Together, if elected, we will work to ensure the most pressing issues are no longer overlooked, but addressed with responsiveness.

I'm Jennifer Economy, and I've taken the Public School Pledge, along candidates Jared Miller, Kimberly Alameda, and Blaizen Buckshot Bloom.

We want to work for you Chesapeake, not a political party!

This is not an endorsement of anyone’s campaign. It’s about the issues and creating voter awareness.

- The Arc Northern Virginia

This is something that needs to occur nationwide! Training first responders to respond to situations for those with disabilities is something I looked into when I started my campaign.

I have seen first hand what can occur when these types of situations are not handled correctly.

I have a very dear friend in another state who has an adult child with autism. There have been several interactions with the police over the years that were devastating to the family and traumatized the child. One incident occurred at a school.

I have said since the beginning of my campaign, my priority was advocating for children with disabilities. I’m not a pandering politician, I just know from experience. My friend taught me to be my child’s best advocate.

I want to bring change to our families in Chesapeake who have children with disabilities and special needs. If elected, I would like to be the board member representative for our Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), the liaison, to help implement what the committee recommends.
