Writing on a computer is convenient and thanks to “the cloud” you can pick up the story on just about any device. It’s great, but I think we miss out when we can’t see our works in progress grow as a result of the effort that goes into the journey.

Here's a wee little taste. [pre-polishing]

Bean dropped back into real space and Gerald experienced an abrupt expansion of his consciousness. It was as if for a single, breath-stealing instant, his mind brushed against the true nature of the universe, but before he could comprehend any meaning reality broke apart and reassembled itself into a more familiar configuration. Gerald’s mind collapsed back to its standard functioning. In the same moment, he felt his body flung forward and simultaneous je**ed backwards, yet his physical self remained motionless, held tight by the control couch’s restraints. Spacers called the experience shattering and it happened any time a ship dropped back into real space. And truth be told it never felt that great. A hypo emerged from the control couch arm and injected him with a cocktail of drugs to mitigate the side effects of shattering—namely stroking out and falling headlong into madness. Bean’s jump systems spooled down and conventional thrusters came back online propelling the vessel forward.

Friday News:
Some final polishing left on the next PDF chapter of Crescent (2nd Edition)...I really need a short form of that. Any suggestions? This will go live on Patreon tomorrow. Eden Eternity launches on the Phil Rossi public feed next week.

In other Patreon-related news, I will resume recording At the Mountains of Madness next week.

Questions? Comments? I would love to hear from you!

It’s good to be back on Crescent Station.

03/30/2023

The messages and comments have been so exciting and inspiring to see. Thank you all! Here's a little teaser from Crescent's sequel New Memphis. The whole draft chapter will be available on Patreon at the end of the week (in PDF format). I have always loved this scene. Disregard typos and general grammatical errors ;-) And don't expect FB to format this lol.

Gerald wondered if Bean felt the crawl in his own. Doubtful. Bean was, after all, only a ship.
A female Core Sec officer watched Gerald retrieve his duffle from the hangar deck. She had her arms crossed over the front of her dark blue uniform jacket in way that seemed to say, if you continue to take your time, I will most assuredly break your balls. An arc of gold was stitched into the breast pocket her uniform jacket just above Core Sec starburst insignia, indicating her as a member of Crescent Station’s contracted security force. The officer’s hair was midnight black and woven into a braid tighter than the docking lines. The dark hair reflected the hangar bay’s gold and azure lighting in a way that was ethereal. A few stray ringlets framed her face and her lips were set in a straight line, poised to twist into a frown at any moment. She was pretty—very pretty—and looked just as fierce. Her hand rested on a mean-looking stun rod slung in a hip holster. The typical welcoming party. Gerald set his yellow duffle on the flight deck.
“Back so soon, Mr. Evans?” she asked.
“Officer Vessot.” He smiled. “Did you come to say hello or to break my stones?”
“Just checking for the usual, Gerry. Weapons?”
“Just the widow makers.” He balled his hands into fists and raised them.
She snorted a laugh and shook her head. He bowed with mock grace.
“It’s hard to believe you’re even real, Mr. Evans,” Vessot stated.
“Thank you very much. The 11:30 show is different than the 7:30. You should stick around.” he said, and bowed again.

I’m in the business of making music, writing stories, recording podcasts, and often the three overlap. I’m Patreon content creator, and if you haven’t stopped by my page there (patreon.com/philrossi) please do. Without Patreon writing and podcast my stories just wouldn’t be happening. As for the music bit, I perform live in the DC Metro Area and you can catch me a brewery, vineyard, or pub on most weekends.
