I wish I had this 8 years ago or 20 years ago now both of them know exactly what they want and exactly how they want it.

September is National Preparedness Month. As we come to the end of the month, what have you done to "prepare". I guess the first question is "prepare for what?" Any emergency that might arise, natural disasters, economic collapse, power outages, government shut downs, trucker strikes, cyber attacks. If you don't already have a family disaster plan there are plenty of resources available. FEMA, American Red Cross, State Emergency Management agencies, all of these can help you with planning for a disaster. A good plan should include options for sheltering in place and evacuating, food and water, a family communication plan, medicine and first aid, as well as morale (musical instruments, games, cards, candy, things that make us happy). These are the basics to start with and your plan will expand becoming more of a long term vs short term plan based on what you want to be prepared to endure. Supplies are readily available at reasonable costs. A few places to check that I use are 4Patriots, Goal Zero, Amazon, and a very inexpensive (but decent quality) Temu.

It is with great enthusiasm and pleasure that I am able to finally share Rodney Curtis' announcement to run for Sheriff of Gordon County. I fully endorse Rodney Curtis and please allow me to share my perspective with you. I am a retired Georgia State Patrol Sergeant/Assistant Post Commander. I served as interim Post Commander at Post 5 Dalton for approximately 7 months and Post 38 Rome for about the same amount of time. I have had the honor and pleasure of working alongside Rodney as well as being his supervisor. Likewise, I have served alongside and supervised Mitch Ralston. I can say unequivocally that Sheriff Candidate Rodney Curtis is the right choice for the citizens of Gordon County. I worked at Post 43 Calhoun for several years and my parents lived there for many years. Gordon County is not currently receiving the public safety service they deserve. Sheriff Candidate Rodney Curtis is a man of the highest integrity and moral character. When he is elected, his administration will lead the Gordon County Sheriff's office into a new realm of professionalism, respect for the citizens, fair application of the law, aggressive crime suppression, and a zero-tolerance policy for anything that remotely resembles corruption. I have had the occasion to speak to Sheriff Candidate Curtis and I know for certain that these are just a few of his top priorities. As a private investigator and owner of Hindsight Investigations, I have had many opportunities to work cases in Gordon County. I have heard only complaints about the public safety services currently being received. I personally have been working a missing person case involving a female that went missing from Gordon County, OVER THREE YEARS AGO!! I know for a fact that the parents of the female have tried multiple times to talk with the current administration at the Gordon County Sheriff's Office, with no satisfaction. Sheriff Candidate Curtis called me personally to offer his apologies at the way this case has been handled and stated that when he is elected, no parent will go unheard or unanswered. I look forward to meeting many of you at election events over the next 11 months as I plan to be in attendance in support of Sheriff Candidate Rodney Curtis at these events.

Are we all gonna die from coronavirus, has the entire world lost their minds, should we look for the 4 horsemen, why are we letting criminals take over large parts of major cities, what happens if we defund the police? So here we all are, stuck in our homes with no place to go for the next few weeks. Some of us are bored by staying home, others wished they could stay home but they are 'essential' and have to work still. Regardless of your current station in life, these are stressful times for everyone. But I've noticed a change in my neighborhood. People are outside, they are playing with their kids, walking their dogs, working in the yard, painting the porch, and they are talking to their neighbors. Yes, I'm sure much of this can be contributed to the warmer weather. Perhaps, though, some of it is just people getting back to the simple things in life. Could it be that COVID-19 may start a paradigm shift in our social structure? Could it be that people may start to actually care about others again? Let's hope that is the case. America, while seemingly cursed at the moment, may actually come out of this blessed beyond all measure. The name of my agency in Hindsight Investigations. I named it that because, as the saying goes "hindsight is 20/20." Perhaps America has in some way been given the gift of hindsight. Living amongst the spread of a pandemic, of currently unknown proportions, while being able to look back on our lives and reevaluate what we've done and what we should have been doing. This gift allows us to make adjustments and move forward as better people, a better society. Now, friends, is the time to lay politics, religion, race, gender, and sexual orientation aside, and simply see each other as Americans and more importantly as people. No matter what your situation, there is someone who is in a worse situation. Let's all strive to help each other, give what you can to one another, show people you care. Support your first responders and health care professionals on the frontline. Believe it or not some of these people will never work again in healthcare after this is over. Many will develop PTSD from what they've been through. Support your local businesses every chance you get. McDonalds will still be in business when this is over but the Mom and Pop grill in town may not still be in business without your support. Don't take anything for granted and respect the restrictions that have been put in place. We will get through this together the same way we did with every other tragic obstacle America has faced, by uniting as a nation. Stay strong, stay safe, and let's all stay together.

COVID-19 Scams

For those that may not be aware, the COVID-19 scams have begun. Charitable organization scams have started, so be sure you know with whom you are communicating. These scams may come as phone calls or emails from people purporting to be raising money for the fight against the Coronavirus. If you are uncertain of the legitimacy of the contact then simply ask the person for their contact information so that you may research their organization and contact them back to donate. Do not give out personal bank account information, social security numbers, birth dates, or addresses. Also be aware of other scams having to do with the stimulus package. Scammers may try to convince you that they are with the IRS and need your SSN and account number so that the stimulus checks can be deposited into your bank account. I assure you that the IRS will not contact you and ask you for this information. Others may take a different approach but with some angle related to the stimulus package. Another consideration is scammers coming to your door collecting money or food donations to help the needy and people raising money on the side of the road, or through text messaging. Please understand also that there are thousands of legitimate organizations that are currently raising money and taking donations to assist in the coronavirus fight, and as Americans we should all give to our fellow Americans that may be in a less fortunate circumstance than ourselves. Just be cautious, perform you due diligence, and make informed decisions. No legitimate organization is going to mind you asking for contact information, non-profit ID information, or other relevant information to identify them. Stay safe....Stay Home. Essential workers thank you for everything you are doing.
