Congratulations to Kade Radcliffe, the new young Captain of Uptown String Band and an occasional past string bass player in the Mummers All-Stars combo as he is the champion string band captain for 2024. Uptown did a twisted sweets theme with part of the captains suit and some of the props from W***y Wonka.

Mummers All-Stars musicians will be marching with Uptown, Ferko and Duffy String Bands in the 2024 Philly Mummers Parade. String bands will be on TV from 1:30 to 4:30.

RIP Russ Figueroa, a long-time excellent alto sax player who has been a member of the Mummers All-Stars combo as an occasional musician along with playing with other mummers combos more frequently. Here he was (2nd from right) with the Mummers All-Stars on Memorial Day 5 years ago in Weehawken NJ across the river from the Manhattan skyline. He was around 81 years old at that time still marching in parades. I remember that he never wore sneakers and always had freshly shined black shoes when in costume in combo jobs. He was a retired "Maytag repairman".

The Mummers All-Stars combo is proud to announce that our long-time member playing either tuba or tenor sax has been selected by the Philadelphia String Band Association to be inducted into the String Band Hall of Fame in 2023. Bob has been a tenor and bass sax player in the Uptown String Band (formerly Harrowgate) for 50 years. He was the assistant music director in 1976 &1977 when Harrowgate took back-to-back string band championships along with many other achievements with Uptown. He is also an amateur church organist (and treasurer) of a small church in the Philly suburbs. Congratulations to a true "Mummers All-Star"!
