My Story

Deborah J. Janelle - a multi-media artist.

Resident artist at The Art Center of Dover as of June 1, 2020. This has given me an opportunity to work in my own space devoted to my art and be surrounded by other artists who are committed to their work.

I have done many different types of art in my life. As is the case with many artists, I started creating as a young child, hand-sewing my own doll clothes. Then began making my own clothes, painting, and other types of needle art. Most recently I have done interior murals, barn quilts, vehicles and numerous commissions and other types of art. I also enjoy teaching and often when people see my work ask if I teach. So what ever it is that drew their interest I would love to pass that knowledge on to others.

A common question I receive is what inspires me. What if I said everything? This would be a true statement. It is found in the patterns made by the wind rippling the water. The lines created in space by a dancers movements, and the color palette selected by nature. Even architecture and machines, gears, and the shapes created to make those things work for us.
