𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁 '𝗢𝗻𝗴' 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 - 𝗝𝘂𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 ('𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀' 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲)


Nitipat Ong Pholchai is a dance artist/activist, physic teacher, embodiment facilitator and community-builder from Thailand who was on a 3 week-long residency at 𝗠𝗜𝗔𝗢 𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 淼舞 (Singapore)/


𝗢𝗻𝗴's current research was in the Singapore arts sector and explored how barriers can be removed and how we all can make whatever we offer more accessible to everyone.


This lecture performance presentation was presented in Miao Dance studio on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 (𝟴-𝟵𝗽𝗺) free-of-charge, with a post-performance discussion after the sharing.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁: '𝗢𝗻𝗴' 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶 (𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱)
Ong has studied and followed along the dance lineage of Kathleen Hermesdorf, Sarah Shelton Mann and Katie Duck. He appreciated being integrated into a lively dance artist community in San Francisco Bay area during 2011-2013 where he has acquired tremendous knowledge about Feldenkrais, Body-Mind Centering, Axis Syllabus, contemporary dance and contact improvisation.


Since 2015, he has enjoyed creating his dance work and weaved his science teaching (Physics), and dance/art facilitation into his rewarding role as 'a life art curator.' He looks forward to continuing sharing his creative, inquisitive journey while supporting and growing together with others.

"To conclude my art residency, which aims to activate a discourse among art practitioners about issues of accessibility, and the value of listening and caring for the different needs of diverse people.
I have learned a lot through an everyday embodied practice of observing the urban environment while in transit.
🍃 ...Tuning into a perception of 'access' modulating my cellular breathing with the city circulatory system.
🍃 ...Acknowledging the relationality between different bodies' access to space and time.
🍃 ...Hearing authentic stories of resilience and empathy of artists in dealing with issue of barriers to resources, in navigating systemic blockages to reach out to those in need.
🏘 An insight into how infrastructure of SG and Bangkok quite differ, yet once configured, they both present some kind of stickiness and inaccessibility, in one way or another, to certain groups of people who are deemed marginal.
Special thanks to .sg for taking me around town and for embracing me into their holistic family routine integrated with lots of creativity and care for community. So enriching for me to be in their space!!! 🙂

This 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 of 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟯 featured Jacky Ng Yong Hoe (Singapore) who specializes in Suona, Guanzi and Saxophone. He is known for his versatility in utilizing his instruments in cross-cultural, cross-genre collaborations and Chinese classical music. Together with Nitipat Ong Pholchai (Thailand) who studied and followed along the dance lineage of Kathleen Hermesdorf, Sarah Shelton Mann and Katie Duck. Ong has acquired tremendous knowledge about Feldenkrais, Body-Mind Centering, Axis Syllabus, contemporary dance and contact improvisation.

𝗠𝗜𝗔𝗢 𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 淼舞 is proud to present 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗬, an hour long improvisation jam between one dancer and one musician / sound artist.
Exploring the intersectionalities and possibilities of the sonic and physical realms, the performance project aims to promulgate the concepts of improvisation, exploration, experimentation and collision.
Artists are challenged to meet on the afternoon of performance day at 5pm to discuss their strategies (if any) for the evening's improvisation performance at 8pm. The spontaneity of each unique sharing thus underscores its own ephemerality, for makers and viewers.

"Glad to finally catch 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗬! I love the format - the spontanity, the space with found materials, the meeting of the body and soundscape. Like what had been said, I was also very surprised by how the Suo Na was taken apart by Jacky Ng Yong Hoe to produce various sound effects which hints at nature, bird chirping, contrary to the ear-piercing sound we often associate with Suo Na. While Nitipat Ong Pholchai exudes a certain feminity through his fluid movements and hand gestures. At times, it felt like a ritual, layered with repressed emotions. Even the crying action was devoid of sound and explicitly subdued. Yet, I feel so much sorrow - the mourning of someone/something lost (the roller wrapped in sheet)? the rebuilding of life (the plant) on the foundation of death? eventually opening up to the audience to find some sort of connect? It's definitely a feast of metaphors and a great jam for artists coming from various disciplines. The informal setting is what makes QUANDARY intimate and experimental 🙂" – Tung Ka Wai

The 𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 of 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗬 (𝗕𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝘅 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱) 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟰 features 𝗟𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗼-𝗙𝗲𝗻𝗴, a Taiwanese bamboo flute virtuoso, improviser, and the Director of Lin's Culture Arts. Renowned for his avant-garde approach to woodwind instruments, Lin was honored as the 2024 World Flutist of the Year and received the Best Asian Recording award from the World Flute Society for his album Cadenza21. He also proudly represented Taiwan at the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad. Sharing the stage is 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗝𝗶𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗮𝗼 , the Director of MIAO DANCE and former independent dance artist. Jiexiao has performed with esteemed companies like T.H.E Second Company and Frontier Danceland and has participated in numerous dance festivals. Known for his passion for teaching and performing movement improvisation, Jiexiao engages with diverse communities, including youth, children, and seniors.
