The music pulsed through the luxurious penthouse apartment, the city lights twinkling below. Max Anderson, Shawn, and Lucas, his two best friends, were throwing another epic party.
Gorgeous women laughed and danced around them, but Max's expression was cold.
"Leave me alone," he growled, pushing aside a blonde's advances.
Shawn raised an eyebrow. "Dude, lighten up. It's a party."
Max's gaze swept the room, his eyes flashing with irritation.
"Just get them out of here."
Lucas chuckled. "You're such a ladies' man, Max. Can't handle a little attention?"
Max's jaw clenched. "I can handle it. I just don't want it."
The blonde persisted, running her hand up Max's chest.
He grasped her wrist, his eyes icy. "Leave. Now."
Shawn intervened, gently prying the blonde away.
"Sorry, sweetheart. Max isn't in the mood."
As the blonde stormed off, Lucas leaned in.
"Dude, what's going on? You've been off lately."
Max's expression darkened.
"Just drop it, Lucas."
The music continued, but Max's mood had soured.
Shawn and Lucas exchanged a concerned glance.
"Maybe we should wrap this up," Shawn suggested.
Lucas nodded. "Yeah, before Max scares off all the ladies."
Max's gaze snapped to his friends.
"just get out. All of you."
The partygoers hesitated, sensing the tension.
Shawn and Lucas ushered the guests out, their expressions worried.
As the last person left, Max's phone buzzed.
His lawyer, James.
"Max, we need to discuss your father's will," James said, his voice firm.
Max's gut twisted.
"Not now, James."
"Tomorrow, Max. 10 a.m. sharp. Don't miss it."
Max ended the call, his mind racing.
His father's will, the mysterious letter...
The party had been a distraction, but now reality loomed.
Max poured himself a whiskey, staring out at the city.
The lights blurred, and for a moment, he was back in his childhood, feeling abandoned and lost.
The letter in his pocket seemed to burn with secrets.

~EMMAR WRIGHT~
Across town, Emmar wright scrubbed the dirt off a sleek sports car. She wore a faded t-shirt, her long, curly hair tied in a ponytail.
Her stepmother, Victoria, stood nearby, arms crossed.
“Your father’s businesses associates are coming over tonight,” Victoria snapped.
“Make sure these cars shine.”
Emmar nodded, her eyes downcast.
Her stepsisters, Tiffany and Brittany, lounged on the porch, watching movies on their phones.
“Hey, freak,” Tiffany called out. “You’re wasting your life washing cars.”
Brittany snickered. "Yeah, no guy wants a nerd like you."
Emmar's cheeks flushed, but she kept scrubbing.
Her father, Henry, appeared at the doorway.
"Victoria, remind Emmar she's not welcome at dinner tonight," he said, his voice cold.
Victoria smiled sweetly. "Of course, dear."
Emmar's heart stung.
She knew why her father hated her.
He believed she was cursed, that she'd killed her mother in childbirth.
The rumors had spread like wildfire.
Witch's daughter.
That's all she was to him.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Emmar finished washing the cars.
Her stepsisters sauntered over, examining their nails.
"Hey, Emmar, can you do our homework tonight?" Tiffany asked, batting her eyelashes.
Emmar hesitated.
"Please, just this once?" Brittany added.
Emmar nodded, knowing she'd get no thanks.
As she trudged inside, Victoria handed her a stack of textbooks.
"Get to work, Emmar. You're good for nothing else."
Emmar's eyes stung, but she bit back tears.
In her room, she dove into the homework, her mind racing with equations and theorems.
The nerd.
The freak.
The witch's daughter.
That's what they called her.
But Emmar knew her worth.
She was smart.
She was beautiful.
And she was worthy of love.

~MAX ANDERSON ~
Max retrieved the letter from his pocket, breaking the seal.
Dear Max,
I know I wasn't the father I should've been. But I want you to understand why. Your mother...
Max's eyes scanned the page, his heart racing.
..was never meant to be. She was a means to an end. A way to secure our family's future.
A cold realization dawned on Max.
His whole life had been built on lies.
He thought of his mother, abandoning him without explanation. His father's words now made sense.
"You were always meant for greatness, Max. Never forget that."
But at what cost?
Max crumpled the letter, his anger and hurt boiling over.
He felt betrayed, used, and manipulated.
The city lights outside seemed to mock him, their brightness a stark contrast to the darkness within.
He thought of his father's words.
"Greatness comes at a price, Max. Are you willing to pay it?"
Max's eyes hardened.
He'd pay any price.
But at what cost to his soul?
As he stood there, reeling from the letter's revelations, Max knew he needed answers.
He grabbed his keys and left his penthouse apartment, seeking solace in the city's darkness.
The night air enveloped him like a shroud, but he couldn't shake off the feeling of unease.
Where would he go?
Who could he trust?
