Statement from Freeport on the passing of their defender Blessing Wleh 💔

Another sad day news for Liberian football as First Division side Freeport Football CLUB defender Blessing Wleh is reported dead.

According to multiple sources, the promising defender died at the Redemption Hospital on Tuesday, February 4, 2024.

⬛ Horrible few weeks in the Liberian football world:
😢 January 23rd - Black Man Warriors midfielder Amara Kamara died while heading treatment to Ghana following a spinal injury.
😢 February 4th - Freeport FC defender Blessing Wleh reportedly died while undergoing treatment at Redemption Hospital.

Lofa County has now joined ranks with the big guys and become the sixth best achieving county in the National County Meet after winning the 2025 crown against Grand Gedeh yesterday.

The Wologizi Warriors now have the same number of titles as Grand Cape and Bomi; two titles each.

It's been 36 years since Grand Gedeh won their only County Meet title and 15 years since they reached the final of the competition.

Grand Kru (2020) and River Gee (2024) have been the last two southeastern Counties to reach the football final in the County Meet in recent years and they won the title on each occasion.

The Kru boys defeated Nimba in the 2020 final whilst the Leopards of River Gee triumphed over Lofa in the 2024 final.

The last time a southeastern county lost the final was Maryland back in 2017 against Montserrado.

Grand Gedeh and Lofa face each other in the 2025 County Meet final today, will it be another southeastern glory or Lofa will stop that trend?

1989 champions Grand Gedeh and 2021 champions Lofa face-off in the 2025 County Meet final at the Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex tomorrow.

Gedeh's last final was back in 2010 when they lost to Nimba. Lofa's last final was last year and they fell short to River Gee.
