Sulley Muntari on how Asamoah Gyan was given Black Stars captaincy over him: "I was the captain for the game against Lesotho in Kumasi and another match. When we went to Sudan, they gave the captaincy to Asamoah, and I was like, 'No, I'm supposed to be the captain.
I walked into Asa’s room and told him, 'Asa, I am supposed to be the captain, not you. If Baffour (Gyan’s older brother) was around and they gave me the captaincy, I wouldn’t take it because I know he deserves it. It’s the same thing here. He said, 'Muta, I went there, and they made me sign everything,' and I said, 'Okay.' (Via 3Sports)

SWAL Ethics Committee Clears Secretary General of Bribery Allegations
February 17,2025
Monrovia-The Grievance and Ethics Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) has officially cleared Secretary General Edwin T.K. Dolo of bribery allegations following a comprehensive investigation.
In a report presented to the SWAL leadership, Committee Chair, veteran journalist Ernest McKay, stated that after reviewing interviews with all relevant parties, the committee found no credible evidence to support the claim that Mr. Dolo had accepted a bribe to suppress a news story.
The allegations originated from a Facebook post by James Goodday Flomo, who accused the SWAL Secretary General of receiving a bribe to withhold or suppress a report regarding Paynesville FC President allegedly placing certain players on the payroll of the House of Representatives. However, the committee's findings revealed that these accusations were driven by a personal vendetta, with the intent to tarnish Mr. Dolo’s reputation through baseless and misleading assertions.
The investigation established that Mr. Dolo had provided documentation and testimony that demonstrated his professional integrity. Furthermore, testimonies from multiple sources, including Paynesville FC President Hilary Sackie, refuted the bribery claims. Sackie categorically denied attempting to bribe Mr. Dolo or any other journalist, questioning the logic of such an accusation, given that the story had already been published and had resulted in him losing his position.
The committee concluded that the allegations were entirely unsubstantiated and recommended that SWAL officially dismiss the bribery claims against Mr. Dolo. The report emphasized the need to uphold ethical journalism standards and encouraged members to address disputes through proper channels instead of resorting to personal attacks.
“It is crucial for SWAL to maintain an environment of trust and professionalism, allowing members to carry out their duties without fear of baseless accusations,” the report stated. It further recommended strengthening internal mechanisms to prevent similar unfounded allegations in the future.
In response, the SWAL leadership welcomed the committee’s findings, reaffirming the association’s commitment to journalistic ethics. The leadership emphasized that no sports journalist is above professional accountability and reiterated the importance of adherence to the core principles of journalism despite challenges within the industry.
Signed:
The Leadership
