April 20, 2023: Monrovia, Liberia - The President of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, has issued the following Statement in connection with the ending of the Holy Month of Ramadan this year:

The Chairman and Officers of the National Muslim Council of Liberia;

All Muslims Residing in Liberia;

Fellow Liberians:


Assalamu Alaikum Ya Jamma-atul Muslimeen .

It is with joy and happiness that I congratulate you, my Muslim Brothers and Sisters within the borders of Liberia and elsewhere, as you are about to successfully complete the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.

As faithful and devout Muslims, you joined your colleagues from all around the world to fast and pray for yourselves, your families, and your dear country Liberia, for a period of one month. I now also join you in prayers that Allah, the Almighty, will give you the full blessings of Ramadan and answer all of your good supplications made for Liberia and its citizens.

Once again, as one who believes in religious tolerance, and in my capacity as the leader of all Liberians, regardless of religious beliefs or political orientation, I am glad that I was able to extend kind gestures to all Muslims in all of the fifteen (15) counties of Liberia, by providing financial and nutritional support.

You will all recall that, since I became President of Liberia, I have consistently reached out to you, my Muslim Brothers and Sisters. This is my way of Identifying with you and to express my deep appreciation for your many supplications offered for our Nation.

In the same vein, I want to reaffirm my support to all Muslim Civil Servants and Officials of Government across the Republic of Liberia as they go about celebrating the Eidul-Fitr. As Chief Executive of the Republic of Liberia, I hereby announce that all Muslims serving in Government are excused from work on the day marking the official celebration of the end of Ramadan in Liberia.

Finally, I urge all Muslims to continuously pray for peaceful, transparent and credible Presidential and Legislative elections to be held in October this year in our beloved country, Mmam Liberia. Let peace reign supreme during these elections, and let the will of the Liberian people be accepted by all.

I also urge you, my Brothers and Sisters, to remain as law-abiding and peaceful as you have demonstrated in the past.

To all Muslims, I say: Eid Mubarak!

May Almighty Allah bless the work of our hands and save Liberia!

Fasting in RAMADAN is one of the five pillars of Islam obligatory upon all adult and healthy Muslims.

On April 13th this year (2021) our fellow Liberians of the Islamic Faith embarked upon the annual observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
On that occasion I congratulated the Muslim Community, and I urged them to pray for the peace and development of Liberia. I also urged them for their prayers and supplications for God to end the massive and devastating consequences of the Coronavirus being experienced by the world.

As my Liberian Muslim brothers and sisters climax the end of Ramadan 2021, I congratulate and thank all of them for their moral and spiritual endurance, far-sightedness and prayers offered for our beloved nation and people. I also wish to commend all Muslims for remaining law-abiding and patriotic during these very difficult and trying times in our nation’s history.
I ask all Muslims to continue to pray for peace, and a reconciled Liberia that will bring about national development and social cohesion.

Lastly, I urge all Muslims to avoid violence in their bid to resolve land disputes, because a violent approach to land disputes has the potential to derail and undermine the peace we have enjoyed and continue to enjoy today.

To all Muslims, I say Eid MUBARAK!!!
