Well that was a very pleasant walk on the beach at Black Rock earlier with my furry friend & a couple of nice cold ciders at the Café afterwards, purely for rehydration purposes 😀
This is the area of land that was ''offered'' to Poundstock Parish Council by Cornwall Council as a site for a new Community Hall.
The offer was so good, it was very easy for the PC to refuse.
At the time the PC declined the offer we asked if CC would consider making it available to a Commmunity Land Trust to build affordable housing. The response from CC was negative.
Anyhow it was auctioned last night by Kivells with a guide price of £150k.
It didn't sell.
By coincidence yesterday I attended a siminar organised by the Cornwall Community Land Trust where I mentioned the site to a representative of the CC Affordable Housing team.
I have asked if they would consider engaging with CCLT to once again explore possibilities.
One of the issues discussed at length at this evening's PC meeting was the unsatisfactory performance of South West Water & the unacceptable consequences for Widemouth especially.
While it's a very serious & challenging issue, it's difficult not to appreciate Matt's take on what is a concern all around the country.
The sewage issue is especially relevant to us, especially at Widemouth.
Government may have broken law over sewage - watchdog It is being investigated for allowing excessive sewage into England's rivers and seas.
Interested to read this bearing in mind discussions at PPC on Thursday evening.
UK has 'cleanest beaches in the world', says Devon MP The comment was made during a BBC ‘Any Questions?’ debate which took place on Friday 11th August in Teignmouth.
Disappointingly the Old Parish Hall remains unsold after this evening's online auction.
At the next Parish Council meeting, I look forward to hearing the suggestions as to the way forward of those who decided they were far more capable of dealing with everything, including hall related, than me. https://devon.townandcountrypropertyauctions.co.uk/lot/details/95368?fbclid=IwAR1jmCu1-9IMGOIO3rhRBd3lZHN3Bwh5L8dExqG-nbfPT5EmbWUN96dQucE
The Old Parish Hall, Poundstock, Bude, Cornwall, EX23 0DH | Town & Country Property Auctions We are delighted to present this opportunity to purchase an easy access site in Poundstock near the sought after locations of Widemouth Bay and Bude with outline permission granted.
I have no doubt it will be of interest to Poundstock Parishioners to hear that the Judicial Review of the granting of planning permission for the Crematorium is being heard in London at the Royal Courts of Justice between the 4th and 6th July.
The reference number for the case is CO/345/2023.
The Old Parish Hall site is to be sold by online auction on Wednesday 28 June.
The auction can be watched by following the instructions in the following link:

No doubt many Poundstock residents who either attended or watched on line the proceedings of the Strategic Planning Committee meeting of 17 November last where the Crematorium proposal was approved, will recall with disappointment the contribution of Cornwall Councillor for Bude & Bude/Stratton Town Councillor Peter La Broy. For me the accuracy of Cllr. La Broy's interpretation of BSTC proceedings was very concerning and I was left wondering as to the motivation for his intervention.
I wonder if the answer could have anything to do with this which has recently appeared in the public domain.
No doubt many will be familiar with the expression “revenge is a dish best served cold”.
I suppose it shouldn't really have come as a surprise given the significant progress made in matters relating to the Community Hall over the last year that the unelected and unelectable are now putting themselves in a position to claim the credit in spite of having tried to block every single effort at progress over that time.
Anyhow this gives me more time to pursue the unfinished business of the Crematorium.
Having resigned from BSTC approximately a year ago, I have decided to put my name forward again given the forthcoming by-elections there. Not surprisingly having been involved in various deliberations there at the time I am still disgusted by the claim at the Strategic Planning Committee meeting on 17 November last that BSTC had supported the proposal. The fact is BSTC NEVER formally discussed or passed any resolution supporting the proposal.
I was a member of the TC Planning Committee and it was in response to my request that BSTC address the applicants' claim that ''The Town Council was in full support'' that the Planning Committee ''Resolved: that the Town Clerk write to CC to make clear that BSTC has never supported this application. The letter should make clear that BSTC's support in principle for a crematorium in the area was not an endorsement of this particular development, not least because it is outside the parish and therefore beyond BSTCs remit''.
Anyhow, IF elected I will be asking BSTC to address the misinformation which was so beneficial to the approval of the application.
Concerns have been expressed relating to closure of footpaths at Whalesborough.
I hope this explanation helps.
Public Footpath Notice:
It has come to our attention some members of the public are concerned over the closure of the gate to the Footpath at Whalesborough Holiday Cottages and Spa.
We would like to advise the footpath that has been closed off is a Private Footpath belonging to the Whalesborough Resort. There will soon be large machinery around this area so we have closed the gate as a matter of public safety. We will of course re-open the gate to our private footpath as soon as it is safe to do so.
There is a public footpath adjacent to our private footpath, highlighted purple on the map below, which of course you are free to use as you wish.
While it has been hard work getting to this point, it is very satisfactory that the outline planning application to demolish the Old Parish Hall and replace with up to two residential dwellings has been approved.
The next stage is to obtain qoutes etc from local Estate Agents with a view to the possible sale of the site.
A report will then be prepared for the Parish Council who will make the formal decision on a possible sale of the site.
Meanwhile if there is any opinion you would like to offer in advance, please contact Lynn our parish clerk at: [email protected]
or myself on 01288 361984, email:

I suppose it would be reasonable to suggest being accused of bias against something and bias in favour of the same issue could be interpreted as striking the correct balance.
What does make the interpretation slightly challenging is when both accusations come from the same individual!
As ever public attendance & participation at this meeting will be very welcome.
I'm sure this planning application will be of interest here.
Just to correct an inaccuracy in the application, the building is still listed on the Cornwall Council list of Assets of Community Value.

Speaking as somebody who made my views perfectly clear when I stood for election to Poundstock Parish Council, it's ironic to be lectured on the concept of a ''mandate'' by somebody who chose the easier route of co-option.
As part of the Parish Council's determination to resolve the issue of a Community Hall for Poundstock & having concluded the old hall site would not be a suitable site for a replacement, the Hall Committee agreed the site should be sold to generate capital to build a new hall - subject to the approval of parishioners.
Having considered the matter carefully & bearing in mind advice we received it was decided selling with outline planning permission was likely to realise the best return.
The planning application is now on the CC planning portal, follow ther link below to view.

Among the planning applications to be discussed at next Thursday evening's meeting are PA22/11475 Outline Planning Permission for proposed redevelopment of the contractor's Yard at Coppathorne into up to 3 residential dwellings & PA22/11432 Proposal for Change of use to campsite of Land East of Marine Drive (also Known As Sandparks Campsite) Marine Drive.
I'm very optimistic that in 2023 we will see significant progress on the Community Hall issue.
Happy New Year!
Included on the agenda for Tuesday evening is a discussion on the community engagement we recently undertook. Thank you to all those who took the time to give us your views.
We will also be considering our response to the ''offer'' from Cornwall Council of a ''land swap'' involving the old parish hall site & the land at Treskinnick Cross.
Look forward to seeing you!

It has been decided to defer planning application PA21/01480 from the forthcoming Agenda of the Strategic Planning Committee to be held on the 15th September 2022 due to the sensitivities surrounding the specific nature of the proposed development and the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The application will instead proceed to be targeted towards the next meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee on the 13th October 2022.

At Tuesday evening's Parish Council meeting cllrs were re-consulted on Planning Application PA21/01480 Construction of a crematorium with associated access, landscaping and infrastructure Land West Of The A39 Poundstock on the basis that a number of amended plans and additional/updated technical reports for the scheme have been submitted in support of the application.
Parish cllrs voted unanimously to continue to oppose the application.
Having put my name forward to be Parish cllr a year ago using the description ''Against the Crematorium'', I was obviously predisposed towards a particular result of the vote. I made clear my predisposition was based entirely on material planning considerations. However I was not predetermined as I was open to listening to any credible reasons that might be put forward as to why the PC should support the proposal.
There weren't any.
The general approach by cllrs is to submit personal comments on planning applications after the PC has made its recommendation. I have submitted my comments in the appropriate fashion but (apparently) due to technical 'issue' with the planning portal they haven't appeared publicly yet. They have however been received.
Finally the most up-to-date information available is a decision on this planning application is unlikely to be reached before June.
Item 7. (a) of next Tuesday's Agenda is for the Parish Council to consider a number of amended plans and additional/updated technical reports for the proposal, which are available for public viewing on the Planning Portal.
